More than 117 medical health workers in Chitwan test COVID-19 positive



KATHMANDU: More than 117 doctors and health workers working in different hospitals in Chitwan district have tested coronavirus positive since  the third outbreak of the pandemic.

According to Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, the Medical Superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 37 doctors, health workers and administrative staff working at Bharatpur Hospital, a federal hospital in Chitwan.

He informed that 37 people including doctors, health workers and staffs, tested positive on Monday alone. Among the newly infected cases seven are in the doctors, 20 health workers and other administrative staffs.

With the increase in the coronavirus cases in the staffs, the hospital’s service is likely to be affected.

Finding the service delivery difficult as the infection among the doctors, health workers and staff of the hospital is increasing, the hospital has urged people not to visit hospital unless absolutely necessary.

Similarly, 40 doctors and health workers working at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection.

According to Giri Narayan Mahato, an information officer of the hospital, three doctors, 22 nurses, seven technicians and other administrative staff were infected. He said that though the service delivery is likely to be affected, the hospital has been managing with the limited human resource for the time being.

Likewise, 30 people working in Chitwan Medical College have tested coronavirus positive.

According to the hospital’s operations manager Paras Adhikari, 12 doctors, 14 nurses and four other staffs have been confirmed to have coronavirus infection so far.

All confirmed COVID-19 patients are in home isolation. Coronavirus infection has been found in 10 doctors and health workers at the College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (old medical college). According to the hospital, seven doctors and three other staffs are found the virus positive.

Most of the infected doctors and health workers are in home isolation. Although doctors and health workers are infected, their health condition is normal.

Patients from 19 districts including Chitwan come to the public and private hospitals of Chitwan for treatment.
