Supreme Court to shrink services from Jan 19 to Feb 1

KATHMANDU: The full court meeting of Supreme Court (SC) has decided to provide limited services from January 19 to February 1, 2022.

The SC will now provide only six types of services, including hearings on urgent petitions related to habeas corpus and COVID-19. Likewise, applications and reports of detainees in criminal custody would also be heard along with other types of cases related to detainees.

The Tuesday full court meeting of Tuesday decided to curtail its services in view of the wide spreading cases among the judges and other staffs at the court.

Similarly, the apex court will also take up cases in which date is scheduled for declaring verdict. In the same way, government-registered review petitions in which the bench did not ask to produce defendants would be heard.

Apart from these, the court would carry out works of daily nature such as registration of cases/petitions, appeals and assigning dates.

The Supreme Court also decided to take necessary decision in cases of high and district courts and other tribunals after analyzing local circumstances.
