Nov 20 election: Silence period to begin tonight
Political parties will not be allowed to carry out promotional activities or canvassing from Friday as the silence period begins tonight.
The parties can campaign until Thursday midnight for the elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assembly to be held on November 20.

Ruling Alliance calls on voters to participate in polls as national festival
The chairpersons of four major parties in the Ruling Alliance have urged the electorate to make the Alliance’s candidates victorious in the election nationwide for the institutional development of the democratic republic in accordance with the spirit of the constitution.
The election to the Member of House of Representatives and Province Assembly is going o be held throughout the country on November 20 in a single phase.
Issuing a joint statement on behalf the Alliance today, the leaders of the four parties have called on the voters to take the general election as a national festival and take part in the voting. They appealed for making the candidates of the Left-Democratic Alliance victorious in the election.
Preparations for upcoming polls in final stage: 18,879,570 voters, 10,892 polling stations
The Election Commission (EC) has maintained that the preparations for the upcoming elections of the federal and the provincial levels are almost completed.
The election is scheduled for November 20.
Organizing a press conference on Thursday, Dinesh Thapaliya, the chief election commissioner, maintained that the preparations for the upcoming polls are at the final stage.
According to Thapaliya, there are as many as 18,879,570 voters across the country who will be casting their votes in 10,892 polling stations.
Chief Election Commissioner of Maldives arrives in Kathmandu to observe elections
Chief Election Commissioner of Maldives Fuwad Thowfeek has arrived in Kathmandu to observe the elections.
He arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Similarly, Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar, Sonam Tobge of Bhutan are scheduled to come tomorrow.
The Election Commission said that Qazi Habibul Abal of Bangladesh will come on Saturday.
Election: Do’s and don’ts
A fixed time will be implemented from midnight for the purpose of election of members of the House of Representatives and State Assembly.
According to the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, this period is valid from 48 hours before the polling day until the polling station is closed on the polling day. Voting will be held on November 20 from 7 am to 5 pm.
Similarly, it is mentioned in the code of conduct that a political party or candidate’s propaganda materials placed around 300 meters from the polling place should be removed 48 hours before the polling day.
Likewise, on the day of voting, political parties, candidates, fraternal organizations of parties or related persons shall not wear clothing or badges with election symbols or vote symbols in the polling station.
NEPSE gains 25.57 points to close at 1,936.83 on Thursday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has gained 25.57 points to close at 1,936.83 points on Thursday.
Similarly, the sensitive index increased by 4.49 points to close at 381.06 points.
A total of 4,384,004 units of shares of 223 companies were traded for Rs 1.715 billion.
All sub-indices closed green today.
Nepal sees five new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of five new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.
Of the confirmed cases, four were detected through the RT-PCR method and one through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,252 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
