India’s SSB chief Thaosen visiting Nepal next week

KATHMANDU: Chief of the Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB), Sujoy Lal Thaosen, is visiting Nepal next week.

Thaosen is visiting Nepal to participate in the annual coordination meeting to be organized between Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) and SSB in Kathmandu, a Foreign Ministry source said.

The meeting will be held in Kathmandu from October 5 to 7.

The two sides are to discuss border crime control, and the exchange of information between APF and SSB, including issues of international border security.

In the meeting, APF Inspector General Raju Aryal will lead the team while SSB chief Thaosen will lead the Indian team.

Earlier, a meeting was held in New Delhi, India in August 2021.

The then Inspector General of Armed Police Shailendra Khanal took part in the meeting.

An officer of the Armed Police Headquarters said the progress of the decisions made in the previous meeting will be reviewed and future action plans will be discussed in the meeting.

With the aim of increasing cooperation between the border security forces of Nepal and India and discussing border security issues, bilateral meetings at the level of the chief of the border security forces were started in 2012.

Nepal’s Armed Police Force is in charge of border security.

Armed Police Force personnel are deployed on the Nepal-India and Nepal-China borders.

Taking advantage of open borders between Nepal and India, incidents related to transnational crime, small and medium arms trade, illegal entry of third-country nationals, human trafficking, smuggling of counterfeit notes, trade in illegal goods, and drug trafficking are taking place.
