Suresh Wagle Cancer Centre block constructed at TU Teaching Hospital



KATHMANDU: The Suresh Wagle Cancer Centre has been constructed at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

The facility with 140 beds capacity has been built aiming to provide specialized services to the cancer patients. It was constructed at an investment of Rs 550 million.

It is said the Centre would be inaugurated soon. The new facility will have a 50-bed capacity cancer ward, 20-bed capacity ICU, 30-bed capacity HDU, 15-bed capacity day care chemotherapy among other services, Hospital’s executive director Dr Dinesh Kafle said.

Besides these, the Centre will also have three radiotherapy bunkers, ambulatory bed, bone marrow transplant centre, among other services. At present, the Centre block is being used for treating and keeping COVID-19 patients, Kafle said.

According to him, the hospital block is eight storeys tall including the underground portion. The TUTH, established on July 15, 1983, had started its services from 300 beds in the beginning. It has now expanded and has been providing its service through 1,000 beds. The Hospital operated under the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, has been providing OPD services to nearly 2,000 patients daily.

Executive director Dr Kafle said TUTH has been treating patients through 36 various departments. TUTH provided OPD services to 450 thousand patients in the last fiscal year. It had also treated 1,700 patients suffering from long-term and complicated diseases like cancer, kidney, spinal injury and Alzheimer’s etc. (RSS)
