Govt told to ensure voting rights of security personnel, civil servants and prisoners

KATHMANDU: Security personnel, government employees and prisoners are now able exercise their voting rights.

The Supreme Court has issued an order, directing the government to make necessary arrangements so that security personnel, government employees, and prisoners can cast their votes in the upcoming federal and provincial elections.

A single bench of Justice Bishwambhar Lal Shrestha issued the order on Thursday, acting on a petition filed by Nishant Pokharel, among others.

In the order, the apex court has reminded the Election Commission that it can publish a temporary voter list of security personnel, government employees, and prisoners, among others, so that they can vote for the proportional representation system.
