“US attempting to use Nepali land, politics to further anti-China agenda”

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Center leader Narayankaji Shrestha has accused the United States of using Nepali land and politics to carry out anti-China activities.

Speaking at a discussion program on Nepal’s geopolitical situation organized by the Nepal China Friendly Society on Saturday, he said Nepal should properly execute its independent foreign policy as it lies between two great powers.

He said, “We are between two big countries, we should embrace independent foreign policy properly. It gives strength to protect national independence. If we get it wrong, there is serious danger. Nepal’s very existence may be threatened. To avoid this risk, we should use a balanced foreign policy to protect us from geopolitics.

Stating India wanted Nepal under its sphere of influence, he claimed that China only wanted to prevent the use of Nepali land and politics for anti-China agenda.

“Good foreign policy and diplomacy should be used. America wants to destroy the communist movement which is still the leading power of Nepal. But where we are going, are we heading in the right direction. Are we leaving the path of the independent policy?” he questioned.

He also said those responsible for Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) approval will be evaluated in the coming days.

“Be it MCC and State Partnership Program (SPP) or India still occupying the land — a question has emerged if we have subservient to others because of our policies and plans. We managed to stop SPP. There is nothing more unfortunate than trying to move forward with that agreement,” he said.
