Int’l Relations Committee summons CoAS Sharma on SPP issue

KATHMANDU: The International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) has summoned Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhuram Sharma to clarify the State Partnership Program (SPP).

Although the US Embassy has stated that Nepal requested to join the SPP, the Nepali Army (NA) issued a statement on Wednesday claiming that there was no agreement or understanding on the SPP.

However, seven years ago, the then Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army, Rajendra Chhetri, now retired, sent a letter to the United States requesting to join the SPP as per the government’s permission.

After the letter was made public, the International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives summoned Chief of Army Staff Sharma at 9 o’clock on Friday.

Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, Foreign Secretary Bharatraj Poudyal, and Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma have also been invited to the meeting along with Chief of Army Staff Sharma.
