NC wins mayor of Phungling Municipality, UML grabs deputy mayor



LAMJUNG: Nepali Congress (NC) registered its victory in Phungling Municipality, the only municipality of Taplejung district.

As per the vote counting concluded Tuesday, Amir Maden of the NC won the election to the post of mayor by a margin of 2,287 votes, according to the District Election Office, Taplejung. He received 6,179 votes.

Maden’s closest competitor Chhatrapati Pyakurel of the CPN (UML) secured 3,892 votes.

Similarly, UML’s Bhimadevi Ojha has been elected deputy-mayor of the municipality by getting 4,277 votes, according to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer, Taplejung. Her closest rival Bam Bahadur Bhattarai of the CPN (Maoist Center) garnered 3,844 votes.
