NC cadres thrash central member after party’s ward chair candidate lost in his ward

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) cadres have manhandled party’s central member Hasan Ansari and Biratnagar-17 ward chair candidate Aslam Alam after he lost the election.

NC cadres attacked Ansari and Alam during an election review held at Ansari’s residence on Tuesday morning.

Ansari, who is also a businessman, is a resident of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-17, and Alam contested from Ansari’s ward to face defeat.

Alam had won Biratnagar-15 ward chairperson from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) in 2017 election. After joining the NC, this time he became ward chair candidate in Biratnagar-17. Alam lost to JSP candidate Samim Kamar Mian, who got 1,450 votes, against his 944 votes with a margin of 506 votes in ward 17.

NC cadres thrashed Alam and Ansari, accusing them of playing a role in defeating NC’s candidate.

Alam lodged a complaint at the Area Police Office, Rani, and police have held discussions with both the parties.

Meanwhile, Alam said that Ansari had not been manhandled. During the meeting, he added tensions ran high after the issues of the NC leader helping other candidates arose.
