Talks with India underway for electricity export: Minister Bhusal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal, has said talks with India were underway for the export of surplus electricity. She called the private sectors to invest in hydropower.

Minister Bhusal said it while inaugurating the 220/132 substation at Sunwal Municipality-13 in Nawalparasi West on Thursday. “Government has aimed at ensuring every household’s access to electricity within two years. Now, the environment is created that every sector consumes electricity,” she said, adding that the electricity is however wasted in rainy season.

For the utilization of surplus energy, international trade is must, she added. Minister Bhusal also underscored the need to use electric devices to help solve energy crisis. Use of electrical appliances would be important also in the wake of rising price of petroleum products.

The construction of New Butwal Sub-Station would enhance supply of regular energy.

On the occasion, Executive Director at NEA Kulman Ghising informed that the Sub-Station was built with the efforts of Nepal government and loan assistance of Asian Development.
