Meeting of ruling alliance inconclusive; to meet again on Friday

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the ruling coalition held at Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar aimed at trashing out differences on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has ended inconclusively.

The top leaders of the ruling alliance have agreed to meet again on Friday morning.

Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister Gyanendra Karki said the meeting “discussed extensively” various issues, particularly the MCC.

“We have decided to sit again tomorrow at 9 am,” Minister Karki said.

However, sources said all the parties stuck to their guns and did not budge from their stance on MCC.

The Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is working to forward MCC in parliament whereas Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN-Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Nepal are against Deuba’s initiative.

MCC is also likely to mar the relationship of coalition partners amid polarized views of partners on the issue.

Earlier today, Unified Socialist decided that it would vote against MCC in parliament if Deuba-led government moved it forward without forging consensus on the issue.

However, Maoist Chair Prachanda said the coalition was his first priority.
