Maoist Center, NSP seek EC approval for joint use of ‘Hammer and Sickle’ poll symbol



KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center and the Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP) have submitted an application before the Election Commission (EC) to the use of the former’s election symbol ‘Hammer and Sickle’ as the common election symbol in November 20 elections.

A Standing Committee meeting of the Maoist Center on Tuesday approved the use of the party election symbol by Dr Baburam Bhattarai-led NSP.

Shortly after the Maoist Center meeting concluded on Tuesday afternoon, the representatives of both the parties reached the EC and submitted an application for common use of the Maoist Center’s election symbol: ‘Hammer and Sickle’.

Shiva Khakurel from the Maoist Center and Khagendra Devkota, NSP office chief secretary, reached the EC to submit an application.
