Govt to reinstate and compensate 233 conflict-affected teachers

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to reinstate and compensate 233 conflict-affected teachers during this one-year period.

The current government has taken forward the process of school education sector planning with the development of a ten-year long-term plan.

Although the planning process, which started two years ago, was interrupted due to COVID-19, the plan was approved during the one-year period of the government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

It will be implemented from the new fiscal year. The plan envisages contributing to self-reliant, competitive, promotional value-oriented citizen development for the structural and social and economic transformation of the country.

The facilities of such teachers have been determined by calculating the service period based on the previous study and the report of a working group.

Another notable initiative of the government is developing infrastructure for the construction of a teacher’s hospital in Bhagwanpur, Chitwan.

It has also amended the regulations of the Education Service Commission to start the process of filling up the posts of 17,000 teachers through open competition.

According to the teacher posts adjustment report, there is a need to add 53,000 teachers to ensure the minimum number of teachers in every public school.

To strengthen public education, the government’s goal is to conduct school physical construction work through the Presidential Educational Reform Program.

Under the said program, the government has approved and implemented the procedures of the school construction and learning-earning program in one year.

The proposed programs for educational development, including improving educational quality, are aimed at strengthening public schools.

The school education sector plan has been implemented, including school physical infrastructure development, teacher training, presidential educational reform program, establishment of various types of laboratories, use of information technology in teaching and learning, school management committee and parent capacity development program.
