Government will not enter into SPP pact: Prachanda

"Oli-led government implemented SPP in 2019"

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has said the present five-party coalition government will not enter into the State Partnership Program (SPP) agreement with the United States.

Prachanda reiterated that the government will stand firmly on the side of Nepal’s national autonomy and it will not strike any deal as SPP.

“This government will not proceed ahead towards signing this agreement. Rather, the fact that the erstwhile Oli government had implemented this agreement could be found in history,” he argued.

He alleged that the CPN-UML was spreading false propaganda to project itself as a nationalist party whereas it can be seen that the Oli-led government had implemented the SPP in 2019.

“The kind of propaganda that is spread that SPP agreement is going to be reached or it has already been signed, is totally false. As per the discussions held with the Prime Minister and among the coalition parties, no such agreement has been reached so far,” he said.

Stating that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed the commitment during the meeting of the coalition parties he will not enter into this type of agreement, the Maoist Center Chair said nobody should be in confusion that the government is about to sign this agreement.

“The coalition doesn’t entertain such things. We stand firmly in support of Nepal’s sovereignty and its development and prosperity,” Prachanda said, reassuring that the coalition government will not sign the SPP pact.
