Election Commission working to resolve election symbol issue: CEC Thapaliya



KATHMANDU: The 73 political parties who have registered to participate in the local level election to be held on May 13 have been asked to provide details of district-wise activities and organization of the party.

Today’s meeting of the Election Commission has decided to send a letter to the parties not registered as national party but registered to participate in the local level election to provide details of their district-level organization and activities for getting election symbol with certain conditions.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that it has been decided to take initiative to give the parties, that took park and received certain votes in the 2074 BS election, the old election symbol.

The commission is ready to address the issue in a positive and appropriate manner after, he added.

Attempts have been made to reform the existing provision of not giving election symbol to any party other than the candidate of the party recognized as a national party as per the Local Level Election Act.
