Will not sign SPP with the United States: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has assured top leaders of the ruling coalition that he would not sign the US-proposed State Partnership Program (SPP).

PM Deuba made the assurance during a meeting with Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and Unified Socialist Party Chairman Madhav Nepal.

Prachanda and Nepal had urged PM Deuba to not sign the SPP at any cost.

PM Deuba’s assurances to his coalition partners come prior to his visit to the United States in July.

Unified Socialist Chairman Nepal had on Tuesday briefed his party leaders about Prime Minister Deuba’s assurances that he would not sign the agreement.
