KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has questioned the government’s move of suspending the Central Bank governor at a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC).

Speaking at NC CWC meeting chaired by NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday, Sharma had asked PM Deuba why the government had to suspend Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari at a time when the national economy was at a critical juncture riddled with challenges.

It has been alleged that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma suspended the governor due to personal enmity.

“Was the governor’s suspension such a compelling issue? Was there any serious action plan in place to guide and shape the economy by suspending the governor?” Sharma questioned.

Sharma also drew the party president’s attention toward rising voices to file NC nomination for the post of mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

“It was CWC’s decision to forge alliances according to the local situation and needs. Last time, the NC helped the Maoists to secure the mayoral post in Bharatpur. Naturally, this time the Maoists should help the NC. We cannot move forward by trampling on the sentiments of our friends in Bharatpur. We are all clear in this,” said General Secretary Sharma.

He was of the view that the NC was forgetting itself while trying to coordinate with others in the election. He stressed the necessity of strengthening the mutual understanding from the center to the ward.

He also shared that adequate coordination was lacking between the mobilization committee and the publicity committee even at the center.

During the CWC meeting, Sharma had also expressed uneasiness over the recent appointment of Sunil Poudel in Nepal Telecom.

“The appointed person was friendly with the UML when it was the ruling party, and now he is friendly with the ruling NC. Is the appointment right as the appointed person is friendly and professional? Or is the 58th Annual Report of the Auditor General wrong? Is it right to ignore the questions raised by the employees?” Sharma sought answers from the leadership.

Sharma also said that it was clear now that political parties had not given serious attention while the drafting of the election code of conduct.
