Supreme Court demands documents related to impeachment motion against CJ Rana

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought the documents related to the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

The constitutional bench of the apex court headed by Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki ordered on Friday to submit details of the impeachment motion against then Chief Justice Rana.

The constitutional bench comprising justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Prakash Man Singh and Tej Bahadur KC sought the details about the impeachment motion.

With the apex court’s order, the Federal Parliament Secretariat will soon offer the details and the documents related to the impeachment motion.

The SC carried out the preliminary hearing on Friday on the writ filed against the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana.

Advocates duo Dr. Punya Prasad Khatiwada and Deepak Bikram Mishra had filed the case against the impeachment motion forwarded against Chief Justice Rana.

A total of 98 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, the CPN-Maoist Center and the CPN-Unified Socialist had filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana in the House of Representatives on February 23.
