Maoist Center General Secretary Dev Gurung meets UML chair Oli in Balkot

KATHMANDU: While the ruling coalition has been intensified the talks with various political parties to settle on the issue of government formation, CPN-Maoist Center General Secretary Dev Gurung has met CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli at the latter’s residence in Balkot on Tuesday.

According to sources close to Maoist Center, Gurung went to Balkot on the pretext of congratulation the UML Chairman Oli.

The leaders discussed various issues including the current political development,” the source said, adding, “Though the pretext was congratulating Chairman for his victory in the general election, Maoist Center General Secretary Gurung asked Oli to take initiative for left wing unity.”

Second generation leaders, including Gurung, were overtly in favor of left-wing alliance and unity even before the general elections.

Even on the day Maoist Center leader Gurung was defeated by UML’s deputy general secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, the Maoist Center leader had asked UML for an initiative for left-wing unity.

While there is a dispute about ‘power sharing’ within the ruling coalition, talks are also being held between the second tier leaders of UML and Maoist Center.
