KATHMANDU: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel has sought NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s support to become the prime minister.

Poudel met Deuba at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar and held a one-on-one meeting asking for support to become the next prime minister.

A Baluwatar source said that during the 45-minute conversation between the two leaders, Poudel said, “I only need your support. I will manage the rest. I can garner the support from other leaders,” the source quoted Poudel as saying.

Poudel also recalled his support to Deuba when the then Prime Minister and NC President Girija Prasad Koirala was sideling Deuba.

“I need your support to be elected as the leader of the parliamentary party,” the source quoted Poudel as telling PM Deuba.

PM Deuba, meanwhile, did not assure his support to Poudel saying, “The party (NC) needs to remain intact since the ruling coalition needs to be taken forward accordingly.”
