SC retains Dr. Toshima Karki’s candidacy in Lalitpur-3

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld its interim order to continue Dr. Tosima Karki’s candidature from Lalitpur-3 for the post of the House of Representatives member.

On Monday, the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha continued the interim order given earlier.

A single bench of Justice Kumar Chudal had heard the case against Dr. Tosima and issued an interim order.

The interim order had said that Tosima could not be considered to have received regular salary or financial benefits while being a member of the Nepal Medical Council.

In the meantime, the Election Commission filed a case in the SC demanding the annulment of the Supreme Court’s interim order to maintain the candidature of Lalitpur-3 candidate Karki from the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Karki had filed a petition in the Supreme Court after the Commission rejected her candidature saying that she (Karki) was still in the position of profit.
