SC to decide on Toshima Karki’s candidacy related case today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is likely to give its final verdict over Dr. Toshima Karki’s candidacy related writ on Monday.

Dr. Karki, who nominated as a member of the House of Representatives from Lalitpur-3 from Rastriya Swatantra Party, was declared disqualified to contest in November 20 elections by the Election Commission (EC) citing the former could not contest as she was still receiving fringe and benefits as government employee.

Earlier, the SC had issued an interim order against the Commission that canceled her candidature because she was an elected member of the Nepal Medical Council. Then Dr. Karki has been actively campaigning for the elections.

EC submitted an application to the Supreme Court for review of the interim order. The division bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwida and Til Prasad Shrestha are scheduled to give final decision on the writ today.

Dr. Karki has entered the fray with Pampha Bhusal of the ruling alliance.
