KATHMANDU: Senior advocate Shambhu Thapa has argued that the impeachment motion filed against the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana is a case and cannot be inactive unless a verdict is given even if the tenure of the House of Representatives (HoR) expires.
Speaking at the press conference organized by Former Judges Forum (FJF), Nepal in Kathmandu on Wednesday, senior advocate Thapa claimed that the case against the suspended Chief Justice would prevail even after the expiry of the HoR tenure.
He also expressed his regret over the words used by the suspended Chief Justice Rana against FJF Nepal and its officials.
Senior advocate Thapa urged the Impeachment Recommendation Committee to make a decision to remove those words.
“He used such trivial words, it shows what his status is,” he said, adding, “You can become a briber in a day, but becoming an established lawyer and a fearless judge takes time and requires penance.”
Citing Article 101 of the Constitution Thapa argued the case against Rana could be transferred to the next parliament provided it failed to give a verdict soon.
