UML lawmakers refute listening to Finance Minister’s response in Parliament

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has refused to listen to the Finance Minister’s response in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and other ministers are scheduled to respond to the discussion on the budget in the House of Representatives today.

However, the CPN-UML lawmakers said that they would not listen to the reply of the Finance Minister until the Finance Minister clarifies that he has changed the rates of revenue in the budget by admitting people from outside the Ministry of Finance.

As soon as the House of Representatives meeting started, former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey on behalf of the CPN-UML said that the budget issue was as confidential as national security.

He also drew the attention of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, saying that he should not be the Finance Minister.

Immediately, UML lawmakers protested from their seats.

After the UML lawmakers stood up, Speaker Agni Sapkota gave time to UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai to speak.

Bhattarai urged the Speaker to remove the issue of reply by the Finance Minister from the agenda of the House of Representatives.

“We will not listen to Finance Minister’s response,” Bhattarai said.
