Reelection to take place in Barahathawa municipality-17

KATHMANDU: A reelection will take place in Barahathawa Municipality-17 in Sarlahi district as the May 13 local election was disrupted, the District Election Office said.

Various political parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, and independent candidates accused the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) of preventing voters from others parties to vote, resulting in an election disruption, according to the Office.

JSP’s candidate Ram Bishwas Raya and his supporters have been accused of beating Birendra Raya of the CPN-Maoist Center.

As a result, the election was halted midway, said District Election Officer Diwakar Bhujel.

An all-party meeting will fix date for the reelection, he said.
