Nepal’s economic growth projected at 4.7% in FY 2079/80

KATHMANDU: The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific has projected the economic growth of Nepal at 4.7 percent for the fiscal year 2079/80.

Unveiling an economic and social survey report for Asia and the Pacific on Tuesday, the Commission said the economic growth of Nepal was at 2.1 percent (negative) in 2020, 4 percent in 2021 and it will remain at 4.7 percent in 2023.

The economic growth of the South and South-West Asia which also involves Turkey and Iran is projected at 6.6 percent in 2022 and 5.7 percent in 2023.

Similarly, Maldives’ economic growth is projected at 12 percent in 2022, India’s at 9 percent, Bangladesh’s (6.5), Bhutan’s (5) while that of other South Asian countries will trail below the growth rate of Nepal, according to the report

Similarly, Nepal’s inflation is projected at 5.5 percent in 2022 and 5.4 percent in 2023.
