EC to register parties for local polls from Thursday



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is making preparations to register political parties for local level elections starting Thursday.

As for the plan, the EC on Thursday will call on political parties for registration and complete the process within the next 11 days.

Currently, there are 103 political parties registered in the Commission. Similarly, the voter-list is also being updated, informed Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

According to Poudel, it will take one more month to update the voter-list. There will be around 18 million voters for the local level elections to be he held on May 13.

Teenagers should attain the age of 18 years on the day of May 12, 2022 to be eligible for casting votes in the upcoming local elections.

Based on this provision, there will be 17.9 million voters, according to the EC.

There were 15,427,938 voters in the elections held in 2074 BS.
