Supreme Court Bar objects to new ordinance, demands instant withdrawal

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court Bar Association has objected the government’s decision to bring an ordinance to amend the civil criminal procedure with the aim of withdrawing serious criminal cases.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the Bar protested against the ‘interim’ government’s amendment of the law and plan to withdraw serious cases pending in the court.

“Such steps (amendment of law by a caretaker government and withdrawal of cases related to heinous crime) makes the mockery of the constitutional supremacy, rule of law, legal value and recognition, established principles of criminal law and principles propounded by the Supreme Court,” the statement read.

The Association also requested the caretaker government to withdraw this decision.
