PM Deuba dismisses four JSP Ministers

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has dismissed four Ministers representing Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) from the cabinet.

The Office of the President has relieved Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Shrestha, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Mohammad Istiyak Rai, Minister for Forest and Environment Pradeep Yadav and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Mrigendra Kumar Singh of their duties on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Deuba took the decision after JSP left the ruling coalition and formed an electoral alliance with the main opposition CPN-UML.

Election Commission prohibits pre-poll survey

Nepal’s Election Commission (EC) has prohibited pre-poll surveys of political parties and candidates for the House of Representatives and Province Assembly elections to be held on November 20.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the EC said that no survey can be conducted or publish the results of such exit polls from the date of registration of nomination papers until the end of the voting.

NC extends time for rebel candidates to withdraw nominations

The Nepali Congress (NC) has provided an additional five days to rebel candidates, who filed nominations against the official candidates of the party and alliance, to withdraw their candidature and become inactive.

The Election Commission (EC) at 1 pm Wednesday published the list of all candidates filing nominations for House of Representatives and Province Assembly elections.

The NC, CPN UML, Maoist Center, CPN Unified Socialist Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party, among others, have begun initiating action against the rebel candidates who did not withdraw their candidature within the time given by the EC.

According to the statement issued by the NC on Wednesday, rebel candidates not withdrawing their candidature have been expelled from the party for five years and those expelled would not even remain ordinary members.

However on Thursday, the NC adopted a strategy to make rebel candidacies inactive by giving five more days to rebel candidates to withdraw candidacy or stay inactive.

UML leader Rawal not to leave party

CPN UML leader Bhim Rawal, who did not get party ticket to contest the November 20 election, has announced that he would not leave the party.

Holding a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, he announced that he would fight for justice and independence within the party.

He added he would work to make eligible candidate victorious in the election.

Centenarian Joshi shifted to ICU again

The Centenarian Satya Mohan Joshi who was shifted to the cabin on Wednesday has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) today (Thursday) again.  He was transferred to the cabin on Wednesday as his health condition was improving.

Amish Pathak Joshi, Chief of Operations and Management of the KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital said that the centenarian has been shifted to ICU.

Chinese Ambassador holds farewell meeting with Home Minister Khand

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi had a farewell meeting with Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

The outgoing Chinese ambassador held a courtesy farewell meeting with the Home Minister at the Ministry of Home Affairs at Singha Durbar on Friday.

The farewell call dwelt on mutual relations between Nepal and China, exchange of cooperation and other issues.

Court grants permission to keep cricketer Sandeep in custody for five more days

The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was arrested on rape charges, in custody for five more days for investigation.

The deadline for the investigation ended on October 12.

The Kathmandu District Court had on October 13 granted permission to detain cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was arrested on rape charges, for seven days for investigation.

Lamichhane has been claiming innocence at the court.

Writ petition filed against candidacy cancellation at apex court

CPN (Unified Socialist)’s candidate for Rupandehi-2, Raju Gurung has registered a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against scrapping of his candidacy.

It may be noted that the Office of the Election Officer had cancelled the candidacy of Gurung reasoning that he was blacklisted on banking offense case.

Gurung filed the writ petition today against the decision of the EC. In the writ, Gurung demanded interim order to not implement the decision of the Election Officer to scrap his candidacy.

UML supports Hridayesh Tripathi in Nawalparasi-1

CPN-UML has extended its support to Hridayesh Tripathi, the Chairman of Janata Pragatisheel Party, in Nawalparasi Constituency-1.

UML withdrew its candidature in support of Tripathi who is contesting the election to the House of Representatives from Nawalparasi-1.

Earlier, in the 2074 BS House of Representatives election, Tripathi was elected by contesting with the CPN UML’s election symbol “Sun”.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress has fielded industrialist Binod Chaudhary in the constituency.

Gold price remains unchanged today

The price of gold has remained unchanged in the domestic market today.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 94,200 per tola.

The price of the yellow metal was also Rs 94,000 per tola on Wednesday.

Nepal sees 51 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 51 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases, 45 were detected through the RT-PCR method and six through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,786 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
