1,500 houses damaged due to landslide, floods in Kalikot



KALIKOT: As many as 1,500 houses were damaged by landslides and floods triggered by incessant rainfall that occurred for the past few days in Kalikot.

District Disaster Management Committee shared the information that hundreds of households were displaced due to the disaster.

A dozen of houses were destroyed by the landslide at Ranchuli village of Tilagufa Municipality-4 of the district.

Similarly, 12 houses are at high risk of landslide, according to the District Police Office, Kalikot.

Deputy Mayor Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said out of 204 houses at Ranchuli village, 104 houses have been partially damaged by the landslide.

The people displaced after the disaster are now taking shelter at a school nearby.

Moreover, 105 houses from Neupanewada of Raskot Municipality-1, Sakatiya of Ward No 3, and Tholma of Ward No 9 are damaged by the landslide.

The number of houses receiving damages due to landslide stands at 200 at Khandachakra Municipality.

Two hundred households lost homestead and two were fully damaged at SaniTriveni Rural Municipality-7, said Chairperson Mohan Bahadur KC.

Chief District Officer Ramhari Sharma informed that 200 houses from Pachaljharan Rural Municipality, 350 from Patala Rural Municipality, 55 from Shuvakalika Rural Municipality, 70 from Mahabai Rural Municipality and 50 from Naraharinath Municipality were damaged in the disasters.

“We’re now collecting information about the loss and damages caused by the floods and landslides. Actual details on all damages will be made public after some days,” he added.

So far, five persons from different parts of the district have lost lives to the disaster while 18 are still missing.
