DPR prepared to control landslides in Myagdi

BENI: The Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Office has prepared a detailed project report to control landslides that have put settlements, roads and bridges at risk at Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3 in Myagdi district.

Estimated budget for the project would be Rs 23.4 million, said assistant soil conservation officer, Shambhu Kumar Mishra, adding “We will implement the DPR prepared by geologists in four phases by carrying out a field study. A plan is afoot to contain landslips at Rahughat through various emergency programs.”

Under the program to control landslips, drainage will be constructed and gorges will be protected and tree saplings will be planted, he said. Around 30 households at Rahughat have been at risk of landslides, said a local Laxman Chalise.

The situation has gone to the point as the local people rush to nearby areas, Galeshwor, Ghumaune Lake, Tilleni and Gayatri temple, for a shelter when it starts raining.

The landslips have affected transportation along the Beni-Jomsom that links Mustang with the national highway through the northern side of Myagdi district, he said. The rampant use of a dozer to dip the road and explosion of explosive devices to construct a tunnel for the local Rahughat hydropower project are blamed for the disaster.
