39 local levels in Madhes yet to submit budget details



JANAKPURDHAM: A total of 39 local levels of Madhes province have not yet submitted their budget details for the financial year 2020/2022. Out of 136 municipalities in the Province 30 are have not submitted their budget statement, according to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

On a province-wise basis, the local levels that have not submitted the budget details so far include three in Province No. 1, four in Bagmati, 10 in Lumbini, three in Karnali and four in Sudur Paschim Province. However, all municipalities of Gandaki province have submitted their budget details.

Spokesperson of the Ministry, Joint Secretary Basant Adhikari shared that the local levels that have not entered the budget have been instructed through a circular to enter their budget details in the Ministry’s Sub-National Treasury Regulatory Application (SUTRA) as soon as possible.

Chief of the Ministry’s Local Level Coordination Unit Under Secretary Resham Kandel shared that 63 local levels out of the country’s 753 local levels have not submitted budget details for the current year.

Section 71 (6) of the Local Government Operation Act 2074 provides that the municipal assembly must pass the budget for the next fiscal year by the end of the month of Asar (mid-June). The details of the budget passed for the new financial year must be posted in the portal of the ministry following the SUTRA.
