KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CIAA) has decided to shift the helicopter flight services to Nalinchok in Bhaktapur to reduce the air pressure at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
According to CIAAA Director General Pradip Adhikari, it has been decided to construct the helipad in 32 ropanis of land owned by CIAA at Nalinchok in Bhaktapur.
Helicopter services are being shifted to Bhaktapur to reduce the traffic congestion at TIAA, ‘said the Director General at the inauguration ceremony of the new internal terminal at Gauchar on Sunday.
The CIAA has already started the contract process for the construction of helipad in Nalinchok. “The budget has been allocated under a multi-year plan,” the official said. “However, work will be done to bring the helipad into operation from next summer.”
According to CIAA’s Safety Department, 33 helicopters of 10 companies are currently registered.
TIAA has been brought into operation round the clock to manage the air traffic pressure, According to airport spokesperson Teknath Sitaula.
There are 270 domestic flights daily providing service to around 12,000 daily commuters.
