EC seeks clarification from Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought an explanation from former Prime Minister and Federal Council Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.

The EC demanded an explanation for revealing his vote in contradiction with the poll code. Voters are required to maintain discretion in the voting process.

The ballot paper with Bhattarai’s vote marked was public through social media. He had cast his vote at the Annapurna Higher Secondary School polling station in Palungtar Municipality-1.

According to the election code of conduct, a fine of Rs 15,000 can be imposed for such misconduct.

Similarly, EC has sought clarification from the chief election officer of the Annapurna center in Palungtar-1 for not restricting leader Bhattarai from taking the photo of the ballot paper.
