NC cannot bear the burden of govt’s wrong decision; the ordinance is wrong: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa has opposed the government’s ordinance meant to offer amnesty to the inmates including Nagarik Unmukti Party leader Resham Choudhary.

Lambasting the government’s latest ordinance, the NC General Secretary labeled the ordinance as wrong on legal, political and moral grounds.

“NC concluded in the past that it is completely wrong to bring such an ordinance many times, as no discussion has been made on the issue of late, the party holds that it is wrong to introduce ordinance skipping the due procedure,” Thapa wrote on social media on Monday, adding, “Therefore, the party cannot bear the burden of this wrong decision made by the government.”

He has termed the trend of introducing such ordinances as legally, politically and morally wrong.

General Secretary Thapa mentioned that the ordinance is unconstitutional and undemocratic and against the spirit of the parliamentary system.

“The incumbent government is an ad-hoc government,” he said, adding, “It cannot take decisions of far-reaching importance. This government does not have the legal and constitutional status to bring an ordinance.”

According to leader Thapa, the ordinance has intruded on the jurisdiction of the parliament and judiciary, hence, it should be scrapped immediately.
