KATHMANDU: Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Dr Baikuntha Aryal, has urged the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) to strengthen technological capacity in addition to its regular news service.
Secretary Dr Aryal said it while inaugurating an orientation organized for RSS journalists on parliament reporting at RSS central office, Kathmandu this morning.
“The reporters need to objectively present the views of people’s representatives put forth at parliament,” Dr Aryal said, stressing on avoiding biasness in reporting.
According to him, sometime one could see lapses in parliamentary reporting. Very normal issues rather than those related to people’s daily livelihood, policy making and development could not draw much attention, he observed.
On the occasion, RSS Chairman Dharmendra Jha viewed the journalists reporting the parliamentary issues must not be influenced by any political ideology. Parliamentary reporting is related to democracy, he underscored, adding that parliamentary reporting is one of the significant aspects of journalism, so reporters must be able accordingly.
Similarly, General Manager Siddharaj Rai shared the information that RSS had been providing orientation on pressing issues as election, women empowerment and parliament, among others in order to build the capacity of RSS journalists and staffs.
He further informed that RSS was planning to run the service round the clock after administrative reform.
RSS tested a 24-hour service for around a week during elections.
The state-owned news agency has officially launched a video service from July 17 with the aim of diversifying in its service.
Established in 2018 BS, its service includes news in Nepali and English, feature news, photos (national and foreign), audio and international news service.
Chief editor of ekagaj.com, Hari Bahadur Thapa, Assistant Spokesperson for the Parliament Secretariat, Dasharath Dhamala, RSS Chief Editor, Chief Reporter, and Deputy Chief Reporter are providing training on various aspects of parliament and parliamentary reporting.
