Broadband internet installation gains momentum

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has completed broadband service installation in the designated areas of 74 districts through the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund Project.

NTA is to provide broadband service across the country through different 18 packages.

The service has come into operation in the areas after the completion of service installation.

NTA Spokesperson Santosh Poudel said monitoring and testing of 10 projects out of the total installed so far has been completed.

Monitoring and testing under the third phase of eight projects has yet to be undertaken.

Likewise, a process of installing broadband service has been put forward in the earthquake most-affected eight districts including Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dolakha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga by mobilizing the same fund, Poudel informed.

In this connection, memorandum of understanding was signed with 73 out of a total of 76 municipalities and rural municipalities as of now.

NTA has come up with a plan to install at least 20-MBPS capacity broadband internet service in 4,251 areas including offices of all local government units, ward offices, community secondary schools, community health facilities and all primary schools to enhance their institutional capacity.
