Climate Action Champions Network seeks applications from South Asian youths to lead climate action policies

KATHMANDU: The Climate Action Champions Network (CACN) has sought applications from 100 individuals from five South Asian countries – India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan – for their potential to lead climate action policies and initiatives in their home countries and in the wider South Asia and Indo-Pacific Region.

The Network has called individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 who are passionate about climate action and advocacy, to apply for the 12-months Climate Action Champions Program. The deadline to apply is July 15.

Over the course of one year, through three conferences, a mentorship program, and a small grants program, these 100 individuals will form a community that provides South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region a cohesive vision for climate action, the CACN has said.

The 100 cohorts/ fellows will be selected through a competitive application-based process.

The participants will comprise young and established leaders from diverse backgrounds including government, business, academia, civil society, and media.

Likewise, the cohort will also engage with specific thematic areas, including but not limited to, the green technology industry, the impact of climate change on biodiversity, climate-smart agriculture, climate finance, and climate change policy-making.

According to the Network, the participants will delve into the wider climate change and development agenda, by looking at the intersection of climate change with developmental indicators such as gender, global health, and urbanization.
