Flood displaces 24 families in Dunai



DOLPA: Twenty-four households have been displaced due to flood in Thulibheri Municipality-3, Dolpa. These families of Shantitol, Dunai, the headquarters of Dolpa district, were rendered homeless by flood and landslide.

A single-storey mud and stone house of Nanna Kumari BK has been completely damaged while the houses and farmland belonging to Dhana Bahadur Gharti, Jhuma BK, Urmila Bishwokarma, Motilal Rokaya and Man Bahadur Rokaya have been washed away in the disaster.

Similarly, the houses and farmlands of Karna Bahadur Rokaya, Mayadevi Budha, Hasta BK, Padam Rokaya and Tiuli BK have been swept away, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Niranjan Thapa.

Police said property loss due to the disaster is worth Rs 15 million as the houses and fields, food grains, clothes and valuables have been swept away.

Lawmaker Satya Pahadi had informed the parliament on Monday about the damage caused by the flood in Dunai. She called on the government to pay attention to protecting Dunai from flood and landslide, saying the district headquarters was at risk of these disasters.

Dunai is facing risk due to the erosion by the Bheri River that flows through the town.
