Preparation for local elections being held Friday complete: EC

All preparations have been completed for the local level elections to be held on Friday.

At a regular press conference held on Thursday, Joint Spokesperson of the Election Commission (CE) Surya Prasad Aryal informed that all the necessary preparations have been completed in all the polling stations across the country for the local level election taking place tomorrow.

EC seeks clarification from Prachanda for violating poll code

The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for violating the election code of conduct.

The EC sought an explanation from Dahal for engaging in election publicity during the silence period.

The EC clarification pertains to Prachanda’s meeting with candidates and cadres at Hotel Paradise in Madi Municipality-5 and Chanauli and Divyanagar of Bharatpur Metropolitan City on Thursday and canvassing votes.

PM Deuba appeals people to vote

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has appealed to all the eligible voters to use their voting right freely in the May 13 local election.

The government has made all arrangements to organise the poll in a fair, impartial and fearless way, he said in an appeal issued on Thursday from his hometown at Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan City-4.

Chief EC Thapaliya urges people to vote without fear

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has appealed to all voters to vote in the May 13 local election in a fearless manner. “I want to request all voters to vote without being influenced and make the poll a success,” he said in a message for the election day on Thursday.

27 media outlets face music; 25 journos warned off on first day of silence period

Press Council Nepal has taken action against 27 media outlets on the first day of the silence period of the local level election.

The council has directed the media outlets that have disseminated material contrary to the election code of conduct to apologize for what they have done.

Courts across country to remain closed for four days

In view of the May 13 local election, all courts across the country, including the Supreme Court, will remain closed until May 16 starting tomorrow, Friday, according to a notice issued on Thursday by the apex court.
