Bharatpur NC ward chairpersons warn leadership against forging alliance in local election

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) ward chairpersons of Bharatpur Metropolitan City have warned the party leadership against forming alliance for any post in the metropolis in the local level election.

A meeting of 27 ward chairpersons gathered at Chitwan district party office on Tuesday decided the party should field own candidates for all the posts of mayor, deputy mayor, ward chairperson and ward members. They also warned of filing independent candidacy if the party allows fielding candidates of other parties by forging coalition.

“Regardless of NC center, district and metropolis’ decisions to form an alliance, we — ward chairpersons — declare that we will not be involved in any alliance,” the minute of the meeting said.

Another decision of the meeting said, “Boycotting all coalition candidates, we have decided to field five of our own candidates to all posts, including the mayor and deputy mayor and ward chairperson, in all the wards.”

The ward chairpersons also handed over the minute of the decision to NC district president Rajeshwar Khanal.

The meeting of ward chairpersons chaired by ward 15 chairperson Jyoti Prasad Kandel decided that all the members including the mayor, deputy mayor and ward chairperson should be the NC candidates.

Ward chairperson Kandel said that the meeting had decided to field independent candidates from the NC for the posts distributed to other parties.

NC Chitwan President Rajeshwar Khanal confirmed that ward chairpersons had handed over their decision to him.
