Education Minister Paudel and Canadian ambassador meet

KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Canada to Nepal, Cameron Dean MacKay paid a courtesy call on Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Devendra Paudel at his office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

MacKay is the non-resident ambassador of Canada to Nepal.

On the occasion, Minister Paudel, urged the Canadian government to extend cooperation to Nepal’s education sector by taking the bilateral relations established between the two countries in 1965 to new highs. He also urged the government of Canada to extend cooperation for managing the required human resources by increasing the quota for Nepali students in the higher and technical education sectors.

“Annually, two thousand to three thousand students go for higher studies and technical education in Canada. If the scholarship quota for students is increased, the students and employees would be benefited and this would help in managing highly-skilled human resources needed by the country,” Minister Paudel said.

Stating that Nepal has formulated a 10-year plan for bringing about transformative development in the school education, he said Nepal looks forward to support from the Canadian government for the successful implementation of this plan.

Ambassador MacKay said higher and technical education is the first priority of Canada, and gave assurances of cooperation in the educational development of Nepal as well.
