High-level committee formed to build National Martyr Memorial Park



KATHMANDU: A high-level coordination and direction committee has been formed to build the National Martyr Memorial Park that has been in limbo for over one-and-a-half decades since its beginning.

The committee coordinated by Chief Secretary of Nepal government comprises secretaries of ministry of home, finance, education, science and technology, federal affairs and general administration, urban development, culture, tourism and civil aviation and National Planning Commission as members and secretary of ministry of forest and environment as the member-secretary.

The construction of the Gokarna-based Martyr Memorial Park has so far witnessed 60% percent progress. The construction of the National Martyr, Peace and Civil Service Memorial Park had started in the north-west outskirt of Kathmandu as per the cabinet decision of May 25, 2007.

The government had so far spent over Rs 300 million for the construction of the park.

Chairperson of Community Forestry Tourism Promotion and Park Management Committee Sudarshan Sigdel said that the high-level committee was formed to facilitate in the construction of structures that have remained in the state of nowhere since long.

A draft related to integrated forest management directive, 2978 BS of the National Martyr Park was prepared and submitted to the cabinet for approval. The directive will come into effect after the cabinet approval.

The government took the decision to build Memorial park to keep the sacrifices of the martyrs alive.
