Melamchi water supply to resume from today

KATHMANDU: The Melamchi drinking water is arriving in the Kathmandu Valley from today.

The water is being supplied to the federal capital through the door no. 38 of the Melamchi project in Sindhupalchowk, said the company.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the Melamchi drinking water project while unveiling the monument of former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai at Sundarijal.

Prime Minister Deuba on January 21 had said that the  flood-damaged Melamchi drinking water project would resume by mid-April. However, it would take two more days for the smooth supply of the drinking water, according to the company.

Minister for Water Supply Umakanta Chaudhari said that all the preparations have been made and that Prime Minister Deuba will inaugurate the drinking water project on April 12.

The floods in the Melamchi River that occurred on August 11 and June 11 had damaged the Melamchi water project, disrupting the water supplies.
