KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Bidhyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan, has staged a demonstration against China and its flagship Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) at Bharat Chowk in Bara district headquarters Kalaiya on Saturday.

The demonstrators called for making public the details of the Chinese flagship BRI project agreement in Nepal. Stating that BRI is harmful to the nation, protesters urged to put the agreement in public view for scrutiny.

The demonstration denounced excessive Chinese interference in Nepal’s internal affairs, encroachment of Nepali territory at various places along the northern border, China-imposed unofficial blockade at border points – affecting Nepali traders, and apathy shown towards Nepali students who have yet to complete their medical degrees from Chinese Universities, among others.

The protests led by the Central Coordinator of the student body Bivek Kushwaha also saw demonstrators burning the photo of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Chanting slogans against Chinese expansionism, the protestors demanded that the BRI agreement be made public, China end its interference in Nepal, unofficial blockade against Nepal be lifted and Nepali students be allowed to return to Chinese universities to complete their studies, among others.
