Call to not exaggerate in the news

KATHMANDU: Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Baikuntha Aryal, has said that exaggeration in news disseminated by the media would create confusion in the society.

In a virtual training on code of conduct for working journalists organized by the Tulsa Devi Harihar Foundation with the support of Nepal National Commission for UNESCO Nepal, Secretary Aryal said that providing accurate and quick information to the people would help make journalism professional, fair, independent and dignified.

He also shared that the ministry would take initiative to facilitate for government support in case of any problem in the field of journalism.

Former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Dr Suresh Acharya, while presenting a paper on the observance and application of the Code of Conduct in Nepali Radio, said that the journalists should be clear about the Code of Conduct for journalists that they should apply on themselves.

On the occasion, Chair of the Advertising Board Laxman Humagain spoke on ‘Adherence and Use of Code of Conduct in Television Journalism’, Chief Editor of RSS Yekraj Pathak spoke on ‘Adherence and Use of Code of Conduct in Nepali Media and External Perspective’, Press Council Nepal Spokesperson Dipak Khanal made a presentation on ‘Introduction of Press Council, Journalist Code of Conduct and State of Enforcement and Compliance while RSS journalist Prakash Silwal spoke about ‘News Reporting and Code of Conduct’.
