Flood inundates around 1,400 houses

BARDIYA: Around 1,400 houses have been inundated due to flood on Karnali River at Rajapur municipality and Geruwa rural municipality in Bardiya district following incessant rainfall since the last week.

Most of the families have been displaced after the flood water in the river entered the settlements.

Chief Administrative Officer of Rajapur municipality, Arjun Subedi, said they have been providing lunch to the flood victims by running mess at seven places.

Similarly, the flood has also damaged paddy crop at the flood-hit areas this year too. The flood had also swept away their paddy crop last year as well as this year too, said a farmer Bhumisara Chalaune.

Another farmer Sundari Tharuni said they would face hard time this year as the flood has damaged paddy crop this year. She complained that they did not get any compensation of paddy crop even after details of damages of paddy crop were collected last year.

Mayor of Rajapur municipality, Dipesh Tharu, said no human casualty was reported in the incident yet but paddy crops, foods and houses have been damaged.

Karnali River has not been managed in lack of sufficient amount of budget in Karnali River Management Project, he added.
