House Committee instructs OPMCM to punish those involved in illegal awarding of contract for Ktm-Terai Fast Track

KATHMANDU: The Development and Technology Committee under the parliament has instructed the government to take forward the process of taking action against those involved in illegally awarding contract for the Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh Fast Track Project.

The 72.5 km-expressway stretches from Khokana of Lalitpur district to Nijgadh of Bara district via Makawanpur, thereby connecting the Kathmandu Valley with the East-West Highway. It is a four-lane expressway that is currently under construction.

The Committee’s meeting on Sunday instructed the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) and Ministry of Defense to work in such a manner that the weakness and errors relating to the Project in the past would not be repeated in the future.

The Committee’s meeting concluded that the investigation committee clarified that the contract for the Package No 4 and 5 of the Project was against the Public Procurement Act’s Clause 27 (3).

The Project is targeted to be completed by 2025.

An investigation committee was formed as per the Committee’s instruction on March 27 this year.

The Committee had repeatedly asked the concerned ones in the Rs 175 billion-Project to conclude the contract process in line with the prevailing laws.
