Nov 20 elections: EC to publish candidates’ final list on Oct 26

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is publishing the name list of candidates for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly on October 26.

The candidates’ name list will be published on October 11 and the candidacy withdrawal has been fixed for October 12.

Meanwhile, claims and protests against candidates enlisted in the published closed list under the proportional representative (PR) system of the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly can be made until October 15.

The Election Commission permitted time from Sunday to file an application of claim and protest regarding the qualification and disqualification of the candidates incorporated in the amended list submitted by different political parties.

EC Secretary and Chief Election Officer towards the PR system, Gokarnamani Dawadi, said the EC would publish the final name list of candidates on October 26 by carrying out an investigation on the claim and protest.

Any political party should mandatorily get three percent vote of the total valid votes to get PR seats in HoR and 1.5 percent in the province assembly election.

“There is a constitutional provision that there should be 33 percent representation of women in parliament. So the representation of women representatives should be made 33 percent even after fulfilling it from PR system if it was not met through first-past-the-post election system,” Dawadi stated.
